A way for children to work through feelings they can’t yet put into words.
Play therapy is a form of counseling for children, usually ages 3 to 12, that uses toys, art and games as the language of therapy. Play gives children another way to show what they are feeling and practice new ways of coping.
Sessions take place in our dedicated play therapy room. Depending on your child’s needs, the therapist may follow their lead or guide the play toward a specific skill, using sand trays, puppets, art supplies and board games. Parents meet with the therapist regularly to review progress and learn ways to support the work at home.
Play therapy is designed mainly for children ages 3 to 12, and it also helps older kids who aren’t yet comfortable with talk therapy. Parents are part of the process from the first session.
